Domino Records
- Independent label based in London with an office in Brooklyn, France and Germany formed in 1993
- Stated that it signs unusual British artists and world artists
- Began publishing books in 2001 (The Domino Press)
- Thanks to Franz Ferdinand, The Arctic Monkeys and The Kills it is now one of the longest running and successful British Independent labels.
- Domino has a vast range of artists rock, dance, acoustic to name a few
- It signs many styles of artist so a wider audience can be hit
- Need help to distribute in some areas so go under different names e.g. Rekords Rekords artists, Weird World Artists
- Virgin, Columbia, Def Jam BUT, Island records have hit it big with Alex Claire and Goyte
- Alex Claire released his track then 5 months later became famous from being used on the Internet explorer advert. Other artists were already famous from being in the charts so have a fan base. Arctic Monkeys used a different style of advertising, they gave their music out for free at gigs and they grew threw file sharing websites.
- To some degree yes, they are different to most things in the charts and there first released track went to number 1(I bet that you look god on the dancefloor)
- Yes. Many tracks in the charts are very predictable and feature the same beat and/or collaborations so they can reach a wider audience. Many artists are also sell outs wanting to copy others. Axis of awesome - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw3eYsnl31c&feature=fvst
- To sign to a major label they are more likely to become famous but not have as much influence on your music because they would change it to fit their label. By singing to a smaller label you almost have complete control but it may take longer for you to reach the audience you want.
